Catholic Board Can’t Meet Cuts

Although the Province has asked boards to cut costs, Halton’s Catholic school board is having a hard time meeting this since 85% of its $250 million operating budge this year is dedicated to salaries and benefits. This board already committed to a 3% wage hike so there are not a lot of places to find the money.

The board has expressed its aim at trying to meet the Province’s request and feels funding will not be frozen but the board is waiting for the provincial budget released on March 11. It is only after that time that the board can prepare next year’s budget.

The board of trustees will approve the budge on June 15th.
