Citizens for Clean Air Slogan ‘It Doesn’t Make Sense’ Launched

The Citizens for Clean Air (C4CA) held a meeting at John Knox Christian School attracting over 400 people to hear what can be done to ensure this development is stopped.

With the new 900-megawatt gas-fired power plant just around the corner, the time is more urgent than ever to increase the opposition to this power station being built in Oakville.

The C4CA’s introduced its new slogan ‘It Doesn’t Make Sense’. The group and residents believe the proposed site does not make sense because the area is already polluted, is too close to residential housing, and high levels of respiratory ailments exist.

The proposed plant would be less than 400 metres from the nearest homes and schools. Provincial law restricts even wind turbines to be at least 550 metres from residential areas so many are wondering how a power plant could be deemed less risky.

The group is creating an advertising campaign geared at educating the public on the risk of what is being proposed. The campaign includes a YouTube video, advertisements, posters and lawn signs for sale to the public.

The group also stressed that residents need to write Premier Dalton McGuinty, make donations to their cause and purchase lawn signs.

Below is a video from their site comparing the immediate area surrounding the existing 840 mega watt Goreway natural gas power plant and the proposed 900 mega watt power plant in Oakville.

Although the community has had a long standing relationship with Ford, this issue seriously jeopardizes that relationship.
