Halton Loses Another Resident to H1N1

Halton has lost a third victim who has died to H1N1.  Again this victim is a senior with underlying medical conditions.  He was 70 years old.

H1N1 in Seniors

Although Ministry of Health has stated that seniors seem to have some immunity to this illness likely because they have developed residual immunity having being exposed to a similar virus when they were young, it is not much comfort to the families of these victims.

Underlying illnesses, however, with seniors make them vulnerable to complications.  So far across Canada 309 people have died from H1N1 with 95 of them from Ontario.

These numbers, however, must be compared to seasonal deaths from flu. It is reported that 2,000-8,000 die each year from flu complications.

Most professionals believe we are past the worst of the season’s outbreak but that there still is flu activity happening.
