Oakville Vandalism Costing a Lot of Money

An additional $158,00 a year may have to be spent to curb vandalism and rowdy behaviour in our community in Oakville.

Recently the Community services Committee voted to refer a number of anti-vandalism options to the 2010 budget committee. These included options for additional lighting, use of surveillance cameras and security patrols.

It is costing over $250,000 a year noted Dan Cozzi, Director of Road and Works Operations. He wants to discourage this rowdy behaviour before it starts by discouraging loitering and misbehaving.

Creating formal partnerships with the Town, school boards and commercial plazas could promote adoption of nearby walkways which often are the areas of concern.

Discussions about closing down certain walkways have had mixed reviews from residents as some note they are used as a method of getting around.
