The Halton District School Board trustees selected a name for the new school in the Palermo/Bronte Creek community. The new school will be called the Palermo Public School and should be easy for the kids to remember.
In addition to the name, the Board also announced the appointment of Mrs. Margaret Napier as the new Vice-Principal. Mrs. Napier moves from Eastview Public School and will join faculty at Lorne Skuce on April 1, 2010 and then move with to Palermo in September. All students and faculty currently at Lorne Skuce will move to Palermo when the school opens.
As well, the new school will have nine new staff members joining Palermo from Heritage Glen Public School and Captain Wilson Public School. This should be a relief to some of the children who are moving because there will be some familiar faces.
Children at Captain Wilson and Heritage Glen met with Chris Alexiou who will be the new Principal at the school. Mr. Alexiou discussed the building, the transition, programs and theme for the new school. I believe the students are excited about our school.
The staff are trying to keep parents informed regarding the transition to the new school, the Discovery theme, and staffing. Updates should be available in the coming weeks or months. In addition, parents are encouraged to complete the parent survey under the Parent Info tab on the school’s website at www.hdsb.ca/SkucePalermo/Pages/Home.aspx.
I encourage parents to tell us how we are doing by completing the parent survey under the “Parent Info” tab on our website.
Sincerely,
Chris Alexiou
Principal
