All Halton parents need to complete the Secondary Program Survey

The Halton District School Board (HDSB) sent out a request to parents to complete a Secondary Program Survey. The survey stated that with three new secondary schools being built, HDSB wanted to determine parents’ thoughts on whether new schools should be community schools or regional program schools. Palermo school gets a name

The Halton District School Board trustees selected a name for the new school in the Palermo/Bronte Creek community.  The new school will be called the Palermo Public School and should be easy for the kids to remember. [Read more...]

Halton schools raise $45,000 for Haiti

Halton elementary and secondary schools have once again shown that they can help those less fortunate. We are proud of our young people as they raise money for the people of Haiti. To date, students, parents, and staff have raised $45,000 with only 27 schools out of 100 reporting their contributions.

New Palermo school needs ‘discovery’ artifacts

The new school being built in the Palermo community has decided that Discovery will be its new theme and to showcase that theme, artifacts are going to be embedded in glass blocks surrounding classroom doors throughout the school.

To help realize this vision, families at surrounding schools have been asked to donate artifacts that can be placed inside glass blocks.

Halton’s Walk to School Opens

P.L. Robertson elementary in Milton opened this week as a “walking-only school,” where students will be strongly encouraged to use their feet, bikes or any other means to get to school.

Halton District School Board Director Retires

The head of the Halton District School Board (HDSB) is retiring next summer. Wayne Joudrie has served as Director of Education since October 2005. This will take affect August 2010.

After 33 years in public education and 19 years in senior administration, he noted accommodation was the biggest issue during his tenure.

He noted that related Program Accommodation Reviews were also difficult but said that a number of accomplishments occurred such as improved student achievement, opening of new schools and working with staff and the community towards creating a great learning envioronment in our Halton.

Halton School Board Recommendation Wastes Money on Building Portapaks

The Halton District School Board is considering spending excessive amounts of taxpayer dollars to move portables off overcrowded school and instead replace them with portapaks instead of looking at boundary change options.
